GRIFFIN – GPS Jamming & Spoofing (J&S) Rapid Threat Geo-Location

Oct 2020 | No Comment

Under a recent Australian Government production demonstration contract, GPSat Systems has continued with both capability expansion and commercialisation of it’s GRIFFIN precision J&S geolocation technology. Unlike other commercially available RF/RFI telecommunications spectrum monitoring equipment, GRIFFIN is uniquely optimised for working with extremely weak GPS RF satellite signals, well below the ambient RF noise floor. By employing phased array signal amplification processes, coupled with advanced spectrum cleansing/ whitening techniques to remove “known RF sources”, the GRIFFIN network of synchronised Sensor Nodes very accurately characterises and geolocates multiple RFI sources instantly.

Under this contract, the technology has now passed TRL7 milestone by successfully completing formal project stakeholder field demonstrations. With the effects of Covid19 manifesting towards project end, limiting the final production, fine tuning and the field demonstrations new work-arounds need to be implemented quickly. Fortunately, utilising WebUI software developed earlier in the year, the engineering team employing multiple 4G links, successfully live streamed 6hrs of complex field demonstrations from rural central Victoria into a well attended Australian Teams.Gov webinar, successfully completing the project.

The benefits arising from this project have substantially de-risked GRIFFIN’s complex RF electronics manufacturing maturation processes. Initial productions systems are on track for delivery in Q4, with more to be produced throughout the remainder of 2020 and onwards.
