TRIUMPH-VS software updates version 1.6 is released.
Javad has released Version 1.6 of TRIUMPH-VS software. Its new features include Polish language support and Action button debounce. Pairing SPAN™ GNSS/INS technology with MEMS sensors solves manyiIntegrator problems
NovAtel Inc has announced the addition of four Micro Electromechanical Systems (MEMS) Inertial Measurement Units (IMUs) to its SPAN™ line of GNSS/INS products: the HG1900 and HG1930 IMUs from Honeywell International Inc. and the LandMark™ 20 and LandMark™ 40 IMUs from Gladiator Technologies Inc. The addition of these compact MEMS IMUs to the SPAN line-up significantly expands the range of cost, size and power options available for size and weight concerned applications requiring high performance position, velocity and attitude data.
SPAN tightly couples NovAtel’s precise GNSS technology with highly accurate inertial measurement technology to provide a robust, stable and continuous 3D navigation. The new MEMS sensors are coupled with NovAtel’s SPAN receivers via a new compact, lightweight MEMS Interface Card (MIC) designed to support both power and communication. At only 71 x 46 x 11 mm, the MIC is designed to NovAtel’s smallest receiver form factor, specifically for pairing with an OEMV1-DF SPAN enabled receiver, providing integrators an extremely compact, powerful GPS/INS engine.

Leica announces enhancement in FCMS v3.34
Leica Geosystems announced version 3.34 of its Flight & Sensor Control Management System (FCMS). New productive features such as automatic generation of bitmaps from DTM data have been added to make Leica FCMS v3.34 the most productive tool for cost-effective flights and data acquisition. Leica FCMS provides flight and sensor control management for all its airborne sensor systems. according to company’s press statement, Leica FCMS 3.34 provides easy and automated operation of the recently released Leica ALS70 high-performance Airborne LiDAR system as well as of the new Leica RCD30 medium format camera, the world’s first 60 MegaPixel camera to acquire multispectral imagery in RGB and N. Both, the Leica ALS70 and the Leica RCD30, can be operated either as a standalone installed system or as multi-sensor system ALS70+ RCD30. The combined system works as a fully integrated unit, and shares not only GNSS/IMU data but is also operated conveniently from one operator interface.

Hexagon expands presence in South America
Hexagon acquired all shares in the Brazilian software and services provider SISGRAPH. SISGRAPH has been providing custom made Intergraph solutions to Latin America since 1980. It provides sales, consulting, implementation and training services for all Intergraph products in Latin America.
SISGRAPH’s technical team of more than 100 engineers and specialists has deep knowledge of Intergraph products, its applications and the markets to which they are destined. The company has long-term relationship with the major companies in the process and power segment in the area as well as with several local government agencies.
Excluding inter-company sales, SISGRAPH’s turnover in 2010 amounted to approximately 11 MEUR. The company has shown solid growth over the last years and strong profitability.

Raytheon Wins U.S. Navy Contract
Raytheon Company has received a $32.2 million contract from the US Navy for Global Positioning, Navigation and Timing Service (‘’GPNTS’’) program. The program is designed to replace the current Navigation Sensor System Interface and support mission-critical real-time positioning, navigation, and timing data services. To carry out the contract, Raytheon has partnered with Argon ST that provides systems and sensors for the command, control, communications, computers, combat systems, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance markets. Argon ST was acquired by The Boeing Company (BA – Analyst Report) in 2010 and is now its wholly owned subsidiary.
Beside Argon ST, the company will also leverage the capabilities and expertise of small business partners. Under the contract, Raytheon’s Integrated Defense Systems will be responsible for the design, development, testing and delivery of GPNTS.

CHC X91 GNSS Receiver supports Christchurch earthquake relief projects
In September 2010 and February 2011 two major earthquakes struck, just a few kilometers from the Christchurch central city creating utter devastation in the central city and eastern suburbs. Even 5 months on, access is still impossible to a significant portion of the inner city. Creating a reasoned and appropriate response to a disaster of this scope is extremely difficult. However, the CHC X91 GNSS receiver was deployed by the Paterson Pitts Group survey team on two key projects to go a small way toward enabling decisions on the nature and form of Christchurch’s rebuild to be planned. Several thousand houses near the Avon River and estuary which are now damaged by the earthquake and resulting liquefaction are likely to never be rebuilt. When undertaking decisions of this magnitude, it is essential to have data of a high quality.

StreetMapper, the vehicle-based laser mapping system
StreetMapper, the vehicle-based laser mapping system, is being used to assess the damage caused by the Japanese earthquake of the 11th March 2011. The mobile mapping system, purchased from Mirukuru and operated by Asia Air Survey, has been used to capture highly detailed 3D survey data. This data will be used to assess the structural damage caused by the earthquake and tsunami, as well as the effects of soil liquefaction – loss of strength from saturated soil – which is an important factor in the disaster hit area where much of the land is reclaimed from the sea.
The Tōhoku or Great East Japan earthquake was the most powerful earthquake known to have hit Japan and one of the ten most powerful in the world since modern record keeping began in 1900. The quake then triggered a destructive tsunami with waves of 38.9 metres travelling up to 10 kilometres inland. Asia Air Survey had just taken delivery of StreetMapper, which they have named Geomaster Neo, and StreetMapper Product Manager Chris Cox was onsite at the company’s offices in Kanagawa on the outskirts of Tokyo when the quake struck. Fortunately the building only suffered cosmetic damage and no one was hurt.
