A quantum technology-based navigation system has completed a successful trial at sea, which has shown its potential to operate where other networks are unavailable.

The HARLEQUIN system was tested on board the Galatea, a buoy and lighthouse maintenance vessel, and was shown to be capable of functioning in real-world conditions, outside the laboratory. Aerospacelab has announced it has been selected by Xona Space Systems to produce eight additional satellites for Pulsar, the next-era navigation constellation bringing precision, power, and protection to devices everywhere from Low Earth Orbit. Aerospacelab will serve as Xona’s transition manufacturing partner for initial Pulsar deployment, supplying flight-proven satellite platforms and systems’ integration expertise while Xona develops in-house production capabilities in California.

Iran has successfully launched three domestically produced satellites into space for agriculture and environmental research from a Russian launch site, marking the seventh time the country has used Russian rockets for satellite deployment, the official news agency IRNA reported.

The remote sensing satellites — Zafar-2, Paya and Kowsar-1.5 — were launched into a low-Earth orbit 500 km above the Earth by a Soyuz-2.1b rocket from the Vostochny Cosmodrome in eastern Russia, according to IRNA. Japan’s space agency said its H3 rocket carrying a navigation satellite failed to put the payload into a planned orbit, a setback for the country’s new flagship rocket and its space launch program.

This failure is the second for Japan’s new flagship rocket after its botched 2023 debut flight and six successful flights.

Gilmour Space Technologies has secured $217 million (US$145 million) in private equity funding to expand its Australian manufacturing operations and support the next phase of growth in domestic space capability.

In a news release, the company said the investment round, announced in Queensland, is aimed at scaling rocket and satellite manufacturing as part of Australia’s sovereign space ambitions.

The Series E raise was jointly led by the National Reconstruction Fund Corporation and Hostplus, with participation from the Future Fund, Blackbird, Funds SA, HESTA, NGS Super, Main Sequence, QIC and Brighter Super.
