A book on Geodesy and Geodetic Positioning for undergraduate students
Introduction To Geodesy
—
‘Introduction to Geodesy (For Undergraduate Study) is a book that has been written explaining the fundamentals of geodesy and geodetic positioning. Textbooks in geodesy for the undergraduate students in English language have been missing. Recognizing the need to fill this critical requirement, this book at introductory level has been prepared.
Authored by Dr. Muneendra Kumar, Satish K. Sharma and Chandra S. Khare, the main objective is to provide an authentic textbook on the science of geodesy in simple text, which is easy to understand. Only typical formulas and equations have been included to familiarize students with the complexity of the ellipsaidal computations.
Great care has been taken to write and compile the text in a straightforward sequential progression. Ample supply of figures has been included to visualize the ellipsoidal geometry and geodetic solutions. Appendices have been provided for important related and supplemental definitions, which are used in many algorithms, formulas, and geodetic products.
A chapter on ‘Practical Geodesy’ has been introduced to inform the availability of the ellipsoidal-solutions.
About the authors
Dr. Muneendra Kumar earned his BSc and MSc degrees with three gold medals from Agra University, India. He got his MS and PhD degrees in geodetic sciences from The Ohio State University, USA. He participated in defining the World Geodetic System (WGS) 1984, developed its implementation plan, and researched for its accuracy enhancement. He is known as Dr or Senor “WGS84”.
Satish K. Sharma was Mathematical Advisor with Survey of India, India and then a Lecturer in Surveying at Imperial College of Science and Engineering, London.
Chandra S. Khare has been involved in research in the area of GPS, INS and Digital Camera Integration for Airborne Remote Sensing
About the publisher
‘Introduction to Geodesy (For Undergraduate Study) has been published by Coordinates, which is a monthly magazine on positioning, navigation and associated technologies. It aims to broaden the canvas of the technology by taking it from the domain of experts to realm of potential users. For more details please visit www.mycoordinates.org
