Citizens demand performance, effi ciency, accountability… As they expect better service. And governments do respond. E-government is one such strategy. The UN monitors E-Government through regular global E-Government Surveys. The most recent Survey conducted in 2008 shows a wide range of E-Government Readiness in the Asia and Pacific Region. (read Peter Holland’s paper) E-Government initiatives are being taken in many countries. E-Government Readiness can signifi cantly be improved by deploying spatial enabling platforms. And, spatial enabling platforms need geocodes. However, in many countries such vital enabler are yet to be readily available.
